The $360 million Bridges Renewal Program allows councils to apply for funding, with up to half the cost of the works covered by the federal government.
Hume MP Angus Taylor said councils in his region had received “serious dollars” for bridge upgrades in previous rounds.
“We’ve attracted sizeable funding for a number of projects over the past few years – these grants were the result of outstanding collaboration between local councils, their communities and the federal government,” he said.
The Belanglo Road culvert replacement was made possible through a previous round of this program.
Mr Taylor encouraged residents to put forward suggestions to council about which bridges they wanted to see improved.
“Better bridges improve safety and access for communities, and keep businesses and the road freight sector powering on – delivering dollars into the pockets of local businesses and supporting jobs.” he said.
This round of funding closes May 15, 2017.
