This is the name of a 1970s hit by singer-songwriter Kevin Johnson – and you have the chance to hear it live.
Kevin Johnson: Man and His Music concert will be held at Mittagong Playhouse, with Andrew Forbes interviewing the Australian singer throughout the event.
Andrew said Kevin was not an easy man to classify.
“You could describe him as pop, folk and country, with a bit of rnb occasionally,” he said.
“He has everything in his music, from calypso sounds to American Pie-style ballads.”
Andrew said Kevin’s music came from a time where songs did not rely on a funky beat or heavy bass, where words are used to fill time.
“When you read the words of his songs, it’s poetry,” Andrew said.
“He has a real perfectionism with crafting his songs, and his vocal quality is very interesting.
“He has this gravelly voice with soaring notes.”
Andrew will talk with Kevin about music, the musicians life and influences, giving the audience the chance to meet the man behind the music.
“He’s more than popular music – he melds together different styles to make something more unique,” Andrew said.
Kevin’s career has spanned three decades, and he continues to write, perform and record.
He has won Best Australian Male Vocal Single 1971, Australian Rock Awards Record of the Year 1973, Best Australian Male Vocal Single of the Year 1974, Best Australian Male Vocal Album of the Year 1974 and two BMI Citation of Achievement awards for his live performances in the USA.
Kevin Johnson: The Man and His Music will be held March 24 from 7.30pm at the Mittagong Playhouse, 114-116 Main Street, Mittagong.
Kevin will be supported by Highland singer-songwriter Angus Murray, who is also the current lead singer and drummer for three-piece cover band Eklypse.
