The Discovery Day and Science and Engineering Challenge Day were held March 20 and 21 at the Mittagong RSL.
The days gave students the chance to discover what could be made and achieved if they chose to study STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects at school.
Bowral-Mittagong Rotary Club president Ian Langford said the days helped students gain greater understanding of STEM subjects.
“This gets the Year 10 kids thinking about STEM, so they choose the right subjects for them in Year 11 and 12,” he said.
“It also allows the primary children to realise science is fun, and gives them the chance to experience things that wouldn’t have come across in school.”
The Discovery Day saw 299 students from 17 Highlands primary schools discover what science and engineering could hold for them in high school. The Science and Engineering Challenge put 244 Year 10 students to the test.
The winning team of the Science and Engineering Challenge Day will head to Newcastle for the state finals.
