The Mittagong man was once a policeman, but soon his true calling revealed itself.
“I was interested in magic as a kid, but I never really pursued it seriously,” he said.
“When I was about six I saw a magician cut a woman into pieces in a shopping centre, and I was very bemused about how it all worked.”
When Mr Richards was in his early 20s, he decided he actually wanted to know how the tricks worked.
“I started ordering stuff from a shop in Melbourne, and soon I thought I should put on shows to justify the money I was spending,” he said,
He is a self-described “class clown”, and has added comedy for all ages into his routines.
“Adults are just kids at the end of the day, and the comedy also means I’m having fun as well,” Mr Richards said.
The Magic Jester is performing March 17, 18 and 19 at the Moss Vale Show, and is also the emcee of the underground area.
