2017 will be the fifth time the challenge, an initiative of Rare Cancers Australia, has taken place.
It was first held in 2013 when Richard and Kate Vines walked from Canberra to the summit of Mt Kosciuszko to raise awareness of the challenges facing rare cancer patients.
A climb of 2,228 metres, reaching the summit of Mt Kosciuszko is a great achievement.
Richard said there were 282 people already registered for the event and hoped to reach the 300 mark.
As of March 7, the fundraising effort had reached $39,704.
The youngest person to have taken part in the challenge was 6-years-old while the oldest was 77.
“It’s for everyone,” Richard said.
“It’s very family focused and participation and enjoyment is what it’s all about.”
The climb will take place on March 18 this year.
People can still take part as registrations will close at 5pm on Wednesday, March 15.
Anyone who registers by February 10 will get a discounted chairlift pass.
By raising $300, people will be able to help Rare Cancers Australia:
- Support clinical trials, research and education projects undertaken with our partners at Garvan Institute of Medical Research and Walter + Eliza Hall Institute
- Build and maintain RCA directory of rare cancers together with clinical centres of excellence
- Expand our highly successful app CAN.recall to include multiple languages so that all Australians can benefit.
