Georgia Sherborne was chosen to be the 2017 Robertson showgirl at an event at Rockabellas on February 25.
The 21-year-old is a dairy farmer, and has competed at the show with cattle.
“I’ve always been involved with the show, so I wanted to take it to the next level and help represent the show,” Georgia said.
Judge Rosemary Turner said the entrants needed to be able to represent the rural community.
“They don’t have to be from a farm, but as long as they have knowledge about rural affairs, they can be considered,” she said.
“We don’t look at a costume or fashion, we choose someone who can be an ambassador for our region, who has the personality and general knowledge to be a representative.”
Ms Turner said it was difficult to choose between Georgia and the other entrants, Ashleigh Wright and Jodie Donovan.
“They were all well-groomed, beautifully spoken, confident – all the things we look for with a decent ambassador,” she said.
Robertson Show president Leesa Stratford said the showgirl competition had been redesigned as a bi-annual event.
“For about 29 years there wasn’t a showgirl, and about eight years ago we brought it back,” she said.
“With the small Robertson population, we didn’t have a diversity of applicants, which is why we are now doing it every two years.”
The Robertson Show will be held March 10 and 11. Find out more at http://www.robertsonshow.org.au/.
