Not only do we prepare for the oncoming cooler weather and watch as the leaves change before us, but at the start of autumn we also recognise our seniors with our 10-day Seniors Festival.
Celebrations kick off on March 3 with a screening of the movie Lion at Empire Cinema in Bowral.
To the view the full program of events, including dates, times, contacts and bookings visit www.wsc.nsw.gov.au/seniors-festival-2017 or contact council’s ageing and disability officer on 4868 0801.
This year’s Seniors Festival runs from Friday, March 3 through until Sunday, March 12.
Last week, council opened its 2017 Wingecarribee Community Assistance Scheme.
This scheme is an annual initiative that provides financial assistance to a host of community programs. This year council has allocated $130,000 to assist not-for-profit organisations right across our shire.
Funds can be sought for programs, equipment or capital works which aim to establish, improve or enhance cultural, sporting, welfare, health promotion, community development or leisure services. A total of $10,000 will support environmental and sustainable specific programs, funded via council’s environment levy.
Some of the 55 projects that received funding last year included the purchase of equipment for sporting groups, a school energy project, purchase of defibrillators and the renovation of a communal kitchen.
Under the scheme, three types of funding are available: donations up to $600, environmental grants up to $2000 and general grants up to $7000. This year all applications for donations and grants must be submitted online.
Applicants can access the 2017 Guidelines and submit their applications online from council’s website at www.wsc.nsw.gov.au/wingecarribee-community-assistance-scheme. But hurry - the scheme closes at midnight on March 31.
For further information or assistance in filling out an online application, contact council’s acting community development co-ordinator on 4868 0855 or email community.development@wsc.nsw.gov.au.
