An extraordinary meeting was held on February 26 to discuss options for the club’s future.

Club chairman Steve Granger said more than 60 per cent of members attended the meeting.

Members voted to sell up to three poker machine licences and for an adjournment of up to 80 days to look at further options for the future of the club.

An advisory committee will also be elected this week to help advise the board of directors on what direction the club should take.

The board of directors remained the same after the meeting.

“Hopefully we are able to save the club,” Mr Granger said.

After asking the community for ideas on how to save the club, Mr Granger said he received a number of submissions, not just from Bundanoon but across the Southern Highlands.

“The club is dear to the community,” he said.

In a letter sent out to members ahead of the meeting, Mr Granger said the club’s debts totalled close to $140,000.

He said with the sale of the poker machine licences, the club should be able to pay its main creditors and arrange to also pay off its other creditors.

During the 80 day adjournment The Bundanoon Club will remain temporarily closed.

However Mr Granger said he would work towards allowing the lawn bowls and croquet clubs to use the facilities again.

The inital decision to look at options for the club’s future came after the board of directors contacted ClubsNSW to seek advice.

As a result of this, the decision was made to close the club while options were explored.

Mr Granger said the directors would now work with the advisory committee and external advisers.

“We’ll see what options are available to the club and move forward. It might be a quick solution but it might take awhile. I just don’t know.”

The original club, known as Bundanoon Park Bowling Club, was formed in 1949. In 1956, the club moved to its current site.
