The Highlands sporting community celebrated the contributions made by Highlanders to sport on a state, national and international level at the 2017 Berrima District Sports Awards presentation night.
The BDSA committee recognised the best junior and senior athletes in the Highlands each month over a 12-month period.
Olympic swimmer Alicia Coutts attended the presentation to address the award winners, and spoke about her story of success.
Basketballer Phoebe Johnson was chosen as the Junior Sportsperson of the year and Lauren Cheatle was chosen as the Senior Sportsperson of the year based on her outstanding cricket resume.
Chevalier College coach Matt Bourke accepted the award on behalf of Lauren, who was unable to attend.
“She has done an enormous amount for Chevalier cricket,” he said.
“She was captain of what is normally a boys team and the only girl in the competition. She reveled in humiliating the boys. She is an amazing representative for the school, the area and the country.”
