The inaugural Stars of Southern Highlands Dance for Cancer will be held May, 2017. Prominent identities, from sporting heroes, radio presenters, business leaders and school principals, are encouraged to put their names forward.
This is a Cancer Council gala fundraiser, where the ‘stars’ will be paired with local dance teachers to perform everything from hip hop, ballet and ballroom to tap and flamenco routines.
Competitors will be given more than eight weeks to choreograph and learn a dance routine, which will be judged in a similar fashion to Dancing With The Stars.
There will also be prizes for People’s Choice Award, Highest Fundraiser, and Best Costume.
Competitors are asked to aim to raise more than $2500 before the event, which can be raised through family, friends, your business or running your own fundraising events.
There will be no charge for the dancing lessons.
Events like Dance for Cancer allows the Cancer Council to prevent, detect and treat cancers, educate the community about cancer risk, advocate for cancer control and support people in their time of need.
Funds raised at the Stars of Southern Highlands Dance for Cancer event will go towards the Highlands’ GAPS program, which is a free service offered to all Highlands cancer patients.
As well as transport services, GAPS volunteers can choose to provide companionship, carer respite, shopping, light housework or prepare light meals.
If you are interested in putting your hand up to be a dancing star, send your details to Kelly at Kelly.Dinnerville@nswcc.org.au.
