Final works to the project were scheduled for late February, including sealing of the road originally slated for February 24 and line marking on February 27.
However, weather forecasts meant the road seal was not finalised as plans on February 24, meaning the road will not be operational from the afternoon of Monday, February 27 as previously stated by council.
Rain has been forecast for the majority of the week beginning February 26, which has meant plans for the road have been further delayed and the completion date has been pushed into March.
A council spokesman said this week’s anticipated wet weather had caused a minor delay to the opening of the Colo Street bridge in Mittagong.
“Remaining tasks include a final road seal and line-marking; both of these duties require dry weather conditions,” he said.
“As soon as the weather improves, council and its contractors will attend to these final works as a matter of priority.”
In December 2016, council estimated the bridge would open in late January, after final roadworks and the installation of safety guard rails at the site – despite an original completion guideline of late February.
The project involved demolition of the original bridge and construction of a new, wider bridge and road pavements.
A concrete footpath has been installed on one side to improve pedestrian safety.
