According to Office of State Revenue, in the 2016-17 financial year, the red-light speed camera on Windang Road at the intersection with Boronia Avenue, has caught two drivers hooning along at more than 45km/h over the signposted 80km/h speed limit.
A further four motorists were caught going 30km/h over the speed limit.
Most worryingly, two of those incidents occurred in September 2016, when there were several serious accidents on Windang Road.
The worst of these was the September 14 death of 18-year-old Jesse Brown.
The teen died when his Holden Commodore slammed into the rear of a parked delivery truck, killing him instantly.
Police have charged Jay Geoghegan with dangerous driving over the incident and they allege he and Mr Brown were street racing at the time of the accident.
The rate of high-range speeding has doubled compared to the 2015-16 year where just one driver was caught 45km/h over the speed limit and two for breaking the limit by 30km/h.
Overall, the number of speeding fines issued by the Windang Road red-light speed camera has jumped by more than 50 per cent in recent years.
In the 2013-14 financial year, 477 motorists were caught speeding in this area.
The following year, that jumped to 754 and, in 2015-16 645 motorists were pinged.
In the first five months of this financial year, the cameras have caught 221 drivers.
The news comes as the NSW Government continue to investigate options to improve safety.
The investigations started in late October.
“Roads and Maritime Services is currently reviewing speed zones along Windang Road,” a Roads and Maritime Services spokesman said.
“Investigations to inform the review, including additional traffic data, are ongoing, with our findings expected later this year.”
