Audition videos for the Battle of the Buskers were sent from across NSW, but the musicianship of the Highlands won out, with a majority of finalists coming from the area.
Judge Margaret Urlich, who is an Aria-award winning musician, said she couldn’t wait to hear the finalists live on March 11.
“Last year's event was an incredible display of musicianship, and the calibre of performers lining up for this year's battle has raised the bar even higher," she said.
"Leighton Gardens is the perfect place to showcase their talent and we look forward to seeing lots of family, friends, local residents and visitors to the area packing the gardens to enjoy a fabulous day of entertainment.
“It's also great to be kicking the day off with a performance from Angus Murray, last year's winner of the $3000 first prize in the judged awards."
Highlands residents will have plenty of chances to vote for one of our own for the People’s Choice Award, so family and friends are encouraged to come down to Moss Vale on the day to cast their votes.
On March 11, from 10.00am to 3.00pm, the finalists will be positioned throughout the Moss Vale shopping precinct to attract votes from shoppers and visitors to the region, as well as hoping to impress the judges.
Then, on March 12, the buskers will have one final chance to battle it out in Leighton Gardens from 11.00am, hoping to snag the $3000 first prize or $2000 People’s Choice Award.
The Hot Potato Band will entertain the crowd from 12.30pm to 1.15pm as the judges deliberate the performances from the morning round.
The second group of finalists will perform from 1.30pm to 3.00pm, before the winners are announced at 3.30pm.
Leighton Garden will also be surrounded by boutique stallholders selling food, wine and Highlands-made produce, which will begin trading at 10.00am and shut by 4.00pm.
Details of where the buskers will be located in Moss Vale on March 11 will be released online on March 6.
