Thanks to overwhelming support from Highlanders, three trucks will be heading to Muttaburra loaded with hay.
The Bowral Co-op acted as a donation point for the Burrumbuttock Hay Run, where 542 bales were donated, along with $484.55 cash.
Truck driver Jacob Rofe loaded 290 of those bales onto his truck on February 22, and truck driver Heath Willis arrived with another 40 round cattle bales donated by the Mitchell Brothers Moss Vale.
In all, $45,000 was raised in the Highlands for the hay run, which comprises of $30,000 worth of fuel, the hay, cash and donated time of the three truck drivers Jacob Rofe, Heath WIllis and Joel Lidgard.
This is the third time Heath has taken part in a hay run.
“I do it because I care about the farmers,” he said.
“They give to us, so we should give back to them.”
The men will meet up with 180 trucks at Darlington Point, before they all head off for the Queensland town of Muttaburra, north of Longreach. Search ‘Burrumbuttock Hay Run’ on Facebook to follow them north.
