Every month the committee holds a meeting to review the nominations for the previous months achievements.
These nominations come from both the public and the committee on behalf of the public.
They read through each nomination carefully and vote on them to determine a winner for the junior and senior winner of the month.
At the end of the year the committee call for annual resumes outlining both team and individual achievements to determine the biggest prize of them all, the annual winners.
An awards night will be held on Friday, February 24 to celebrate the winners, acknowledge all the participants, and to hear an elite level athlete from the institute of sport talk about their experiences.
The dinner also aims to encourage all athletes to strive to be the best athlete they can.
This year the committee’s newest award, the Alec McLean Club person of the year award, will continue.
This prestigious award recognises the hard work and dedication of the behind the scenes individuals who help everything run smoothly at different sporting organisations.
These often forgotten or unknown heroes now have a chance to be recognised for the work they do, even though they do it without seeking accolades or even often a simple thanks.
Their generosity of their time and experience is something to be appreciated.
How do I nominate someone? Where do send the information? What information do I need to supply? All these are important questions and the answers are simple.
After each month has passed, members of the community can write down the name, address, email address, phone number and date of birth of a Highlands sports star.
This information is essential as it helps the committee to classify whether a nominee is a junior or senior sportsperson, and allows the, to get in contact with the nominee.
It is always better to provide more information about the nominee’s achievements, as it helps the committee understand the level of achievement of each nominee for that month.
Nominations should list the competitions or events that the individual has been involved in that month as well as any details about the amount of competitors in that event, times taken, or any records set.
Nominations should be emailed to bdsawards1@gmail.com.au or posted to PO Box 555, Bowral NSW 2576.
The committee meetings are held on the first Wednesday of the month.
At the end of the year the committee send out letters requesting a full listing of achievements for the year.
This year the committee struggled to get nominations.
They have asked members of the community to start recording their efforts now, in preparation for their annual resumes.
The committee has also thanked their sponsors, for their continued support throughout the years.
The committee and all attending Highlands sportspeople are looking forward to the presentation on Friday night.
