Chevalier College’s Main Oval was the centre of activity on February 18, with the boys second XI teams turning pink to raise funds for the McGrath Foundation.
Although the game was called off early due to the wild weather, there were a good number of supporters present, eager to watch the young cricketers play for a good cause.
The schools were two of more than 800 clubs and schools across Australia to take part in the initiative.
Pink Stumps Day plays a vital fundraising role to help achieve the McGrath Foundation’s mission of ensuring every family impacted by breast cancer has access to a dedicated breast care nurse, no matter where they live or their financial situation.
Both teams received a Pink Stumps Day kit from the McGrath Foundation which included pink stumps, pink balls, wicket keeper pads and playing caps to deck out the players and the pitch.
McGrath Foundation president and co-founder, Glenn McGrath said the contribution Australian communities make through fundraising and awareness raising activities for the McGrath Foundation is massive.
“This is the seventh annual Pink Stumps Day and it continues to be our biggest community fundraising initiative,” he said.
“We are incredibly grateful for the support of people from right across the country. Our 117 McGrath Breast Care Nurses make life for families experiencing breast cancer just that little bit easier; they’re at the heart of what we do at the McGrath Foundation”.
While the official Pink Stumps Day was on Saturday, February 18, participants are welcome to host their event before then or anytime up to April 2017.
Chevalier College and Oxley College set a fundraising goal of $250 each. Donations can still be made to the McGrath Foundation through both of the school fundraising pages.
