Geoff McCubbin’s Broadband Blues and Robyn Karakasch’s The Black Out were both selected for Marrickville’s Short and Sweet Festival.
Broadband Blues features actors David Humphery, Fran Bosly-Craft, Mark SMith and Anton Baggerman. The Black Out stars Sue Bidwell, Jock Bidwell, Fran Bosley-Craft and Thomas-Andrew Baxter.
Actor Mark Smith said Broadband Blues was extremely funny and the actors had a lot of fun with the script.
“At one point in the play my character, the first broadband provider, gets to sing (deliberately badly) the song ‘Maria’ from West Side Story,” he said.
“It has been described as the worst performance of ‘Maria’ ever to have graced the Bundanoon stage.”
The play concerns Fred and Wilma who are tormented by tow broadband internet providers.
It won the audience vote for Best Play at the Crash Test Drama grand final in November, 2016.
Broadband Blues will be performed nightly at the Depot Theatre from February 15 to 19 at 7.30pm.
The Black Out has already been performed, but could be chosen for the gala finals in late March.
Writer Robyn Karakasch encouraged everyone to come to the festival, which only features 10-minute plays.
“It attracts such a diversity of scripts and acting talents from all round NSW,” she said.
