Anna Isbester received the Bowral and District Hospital Centenary Scholarship on February 10.
Judging panel member Joan Lowe said Anna was chosen because of her passionate commitment to nursing.
“Her professional goal is to specialise in emergency nursing, and she is especially interested in rural nursing,” Ms Lowe said.
“She said she wanted to be in the country and we thought that was wonderful.”
Anna, formerly of Bowral High School, said she found it encouraging that there were people in the area wishing to help those interested in studying health.
Anna became interested in nursing after signing up to complete a Certificate III in Health Services Assistance with a friend.
“I wanted to be a paramedic, and joined as a way to learn about the health industry,” she said.
“While my friend dropped out of the course, I loved it.
“I like to be able to put a smile on a patient’s face – it’s a nice feeling.”
Anna will study nursing at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga.
