Passersby will have noticed Moss Vale’s charming country cottage police station is no more.
The crumbling structure will give way to a technologically advanced facility that will cater for both the police men and women of the Highlands region.
A new facility was approved for the Moss Vale site in April 2016, after being approved by the Joint Regional Planning Panel.
Construction fencing was erected around the site in December 2016, while demolition works began in early January.
The existing house is all but demolished, to be replaced by a large multi-level building that will offer local police the latest technology and the increased ability to deal with crime and community safety.
Bowral Police Inspector John Klepczarek said once complete, the facility would be near to the most advanced police station in the state. “It will be a far cry from what we have available now,” he said.
But before the quaint cottage met its fate, Inspector Klepczarek gave the Southern Highland News an exclusive video tour of the station that held more than a century of Highlands policing history.
