Group riding lessons for children and adults will soon be available at Sutton Farm Equestrian Centre.
School horses will be available for those without their own animal to ride. These include:
- Lost Hero, or Ollie: A gentle giant with a soft soul, Ollie is seven years old and 16.3 hands
- Milthril Curlylocks, or Curly: This 10-year-old, 12.3 hands grey Welsh is great for smaller riders
- S.F Aeronwen Eira, or Snowflake: This Welsh grey pony has spent many years at pony clubs and shows, and is 11.2 hands
- Sanlirra Polly Waffle, or Polly: A gentle girl, Polly was the first horse to arrive for Sutton Farm, and is a bay part-Welsh riding pony
- S.F Ima’ Kid Shadow, or Hunter: This man loves to be the centre of attention, and nothing fazes him. He is 12 years old and 11 hands
The centre has also recently re-introduced school holiday camps. Children were able to take part in two-day clinics to learn basic horse skills, as well as take part in riding instruction and horse games. Centre owner Kathryn Blissett said regular school holiday clinics were now on the cards, designed to offer a grounding in all aspects of horse care and riding.
“We find getting the children together for the two day clinics helps build friendships at the stables and confidence that in return helps young riders progress more easily in their riding,” she said.
Tuition for horse lessons are:
- Educator (not including school horse): $65 per hour
- Group lesson with instructor (not including school horse): $65 per hour, and riders are grouped according to ability and age
- Half hour lesson (with school horse): $45
- Use of school horse for one hour: $35
