The official ceremony for Australia Day will start at 9.30am with a welcome from deputy mayor Ian Scandrett, followed by an Indigenous Welcome from Velma Mulcahy with PJ Forrester on didgeridoo.
Members of the Sing Australia Choir and the Southern Highlands Concert Band will perform the National Anthem, before further addresses from official and special guests.
This year’s Australia Day ambassador will be Bob Turner, who is renowned in sporting circles for his marketing and management ability.
There will be a citizenship ceremony, before the Wingecarribee Shire’s Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year are announced.
The Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year have been nominated by their peers for their community service, volunteering or charity work, contribution to school and/or individual act of compassion, generosity or courage.
The official ceremony will close with a rendition of We Are Australian.
This will be followed by tea, coffee and lamingtons on the lawn at the Berrima Historic Court House at about 11am.
The grand parade will begin at 12pm down the main street.
Oxley Street will be closed to traffic from the Old Hume Highway at 9am, and residents are advised to use Schotts Lane and Wingecarribee Street.
The Old Hume Highway between Oxley Street and Oldbury Road will be closed from 11.45am to 1pm while the parade takes place.
The side streets adjoining the closed section of the Old Hume Highway will be re-opened to traffic as soon as the parade passes.
The parade will include vintage cars, fire engine displays and floats.
For the remainer of the day, residents and visitors can check out what’s on offer at the market stalls, browse Berrima’s traditional shops, explore the Berrina Historic Court House, pet animals in the farmyard nursery, have their faces painted, sample fresh produce, and have a turn on fun rides in the Kids Corner.
