It was a long day of cricket for some teams, who played two matches throughout the day.
In the first match Bowral played Wingello Tigers at Bradman Oval.
Bowral won the toss and elected to bat first.
Scott Woods and Peter Crawford made up the opening partnership and added a combined total of 10 runs to the scoreboard from Bowral.
Bowral skipper Chris Weller was fourth to bat and secured a huge total of 111 runs, which included 15 fours and five sixes. Weller top scored for Bowral and was also the top scorer of the match.
By the end of their innings, Bowral had a total of 160 runs.
In the first innings Cameron Pike, Bob Lewis and Jacob Clarke each took a catch for Wingello.
Matthew Pike took bowling figures of 3-14 off four overs and Cameron Pike took 3-28 off four overs.
Matt Rolles also bowled well for Wingello with figures of 1-27 off three overs. Grant Pike also took a wicket.
Wingello batted next. Grant Pike and Matthew Pike were best, Grant top scored with 88 undefeated runs while Matthew scored 55 runs not out.
Wingello chased Bowral’s total down in 16.4 overs and took a seven wicket victory.
Weller also performed well in the field and took a catch for Bowral.
Murray Burgoyne was Bowral’s best bowler and took 2-16 off four overs.
Weller said Bowral feel down when it came to their bowling and fielding.
“We weren’t at our best and Wingello’s batters took advantage of that. Credit to their batters though because they did very well,” he said.
Bowral’s next match was played against the Robertson-Burrawang Bulls, also at Bradman Oval. Bowral again won the toss and elected to bat first. Scott Woods and Weller made up the opening partnership.
Woods was unable to score any runs whilst Weller secured is second century of the day and added a total of 100 runs to the scoreboard for Bowral. His total included eight fours and seven sixes.
This was the first time a double-century had been scored in NSW in two consecutive T20 matches.
Again, Weller top scored for Bowral and was the highest scoring batsman of the whole match.
By the end of the first innings Bowral had secured 177 runs off their 20 overs.
Weller said the batters set Bowral up well for the rest of the match.
Robertson managed to take four catches in the field, credited to Nathan Wright, Matt Arnull, Ben Wright and Blake Denney. Kieren Bishop bowled well for Robertson and took 2-36 off four overs and Dale Young took figures of 2-42 off four overs. William Angel and Denney also took a wicket each.
Robertson were next to bat and added 43 runs to the scoreboard after Matt Arnull and Ben Wright opened.
Arnull secured 42 of the pair’s total runs and top scored. Nathan Wright also batted well for Robertson and scored 21 runs.
Robertson were unable to chase down Bowral’s total and were defeated by 74 runs.
Weller said it was great to get a win in the second match of the day.
“It was definitely tiring being the second match of the day but fuull credit to our bowlers. They stuck at it and they performed really well,’ he said.
Bowral did not score enough points to make it the T20 grand final, which will be played between Wingello and the Robertson Wombats on January 29.
