Two major road construction projects open shortly in our shire’s north. Both the Railway Terrace bridge in Willow Vale and the Colo Street bridge projects in Mittagong will open in coming weeks and will improve motorist and pedestrian safety.
Commencement of work on the $9.2 million Berrima Road Deviation Project is a step closer, with work expected to start in the first half of this year.
This will see the construction of about 600 metres of new road including a new B-triple capacity roundabout at the intersection of Berrima Road and Taylor Ave, New Berrima. The road will be realigned and the level rail crossing will be replaced with an overbridge.
In Bowral works are scheduled to begin later this year on the much-anticipated Station Street upgrade, designed to improve traffic flow around the town centre. Stage one of the project involves the upgrade of Station Street to include two lanes in each direction between Bundaroo and Bowral streets, construction of new roundabouts at Bong Bong and Bowral streets, and improved parking facilities and access to Bowral’s CBD area.
Works on our Special Rate Variation projects are set to hit top gear. Australia Avenue in New Berrima has recently been resealed while residents in Stanley Street in Hill Top can expect to see their road resealed in the coming months.
These jobs are just a couple of examples from our broader ten-year SRV program that will see council tackle several road re-sealing, re-sheeting and construction projects across all of our towns and villages.
In the midst of all these works you can also expect to see Council host a range of community events right across the calendar year.
In fact the first major event, our Australia Day celebrations in Berrima, is just over a fortnight away. Nominations for our Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year have been extended until January 20. To nominate someone for our Shire’s Australia Day Citizen of the Year Awards visit our website at www.wsc.nsw.gov.au/council/australia-day.
