Australian actor Sam Worthington will take a key role in a new scripted series from the Discovery channel based on the Unabomber case. The "Unabomber" was an American domestic terrorist named Ted Kaczynski who was active between 1978 and 1995. The project, Manifesto, will star Paul Bettany as Kaczynski and Worthington will play FBI agent Jim "Fitz" Fitzgerald, the profiler who eventually captured him. The eight-part drama, executive produced by Kevin Spacey, was written by Andrew Sodroski and will be produced by Greg Yaitanes, whose credits include Quarry and Banshee. No airdate has been set.

Winning night for Wentworth

Foxtel's critically acclaimed Wentworth won best television drama series at the sixth annual AACTA Awards, edging out the ABC's The Code, Jack Irish and Rake. Wentworth also won an AACTA for editing. Another Foxtel drama The Kettering Incident won best telefeature or miniseries, beating out the ABC's Barracuda and The Beautiful Lie and Seven's Molly. The Kettering Incident also won for best original music score and lead actress, for Elizabeth Debicki. Other winners included Molly's Samuel Johnson, who won best lead actor in a drama, and the ABC's Upper Middle Bogan, which won best comedy series. The lifetime achievement Longford Lyell Award was presented to Paul Hogan by Delvene Delaney. Previous winners include Cate Blanchett, writer Andrew Knight, Jackie Weaver and producer Al Clark.

Making a play for China

Australian production company Playmaker will produce a Chinese-language adaptation of the US drama series Chosen. The project will be filmed in Australia but produced in tandem with the Chinese streaming platform iQIYI. The series, which airs in the US on the Sony-owned streaming platform Crackle, stars Australian actress Nicky Whelan and follows a family drawn into a deadly assassination-style game.  Three six-episode seasons of the show aired on Crackle between 2013 and 2014. The Chinese-language adaptation will be filmed in three parts. Playmaker is owned by the US studio Sony.

ABC expands streaming

The ABC's web and app-based streaming platform iView will now carry live streams of the broadcaster's linear channel services ABC2, ABC Me and ABC Kids, in addition to the ABC main channel and ABC News 24 services. Streaming linear channels is a growing trend, with the US-based Dish Network launching Sling TV and the US telco AT&T launching DirecTV Now, both of which offer linear channel streaming. Apple is also looking to launch a linear channel streaming service attached to its Apple TV. The ABC's linear services are available now; the broadcaster has also commissioned an iView exclusive series, Moment of Truth.
