This award was a huge accolade for the association for all its hard work as it is a state wide award which is normally received by a metropolitan association, which have significantly larger member numbers and population pools from which to draw.
Steve Carfino, former NBL player, hosted the annual NSW Basketball awards night which was held at the Bankstown sports club.
There has been a huge influx over the last 18 months but the association was recognised for its increase in membership for the period July 2011 to June 2012, going from 403 to 693 members, a 72 per cent increase over the 12 month period.
This increase has been over junior and senior numbers and the association is continuing to flourish with the very popular summer competition commencing at the beginning of October.
Basketball is now played five nights a week with games some nights not finishing until 10pm.
The registration numbers are estimated to reach around 780 after all summer registrations have been added and these increased numbers are starting to flow into the representative programs where the association has experienced recent success.
The Moss Vale board, which consists of five volunteer members, would like to thank Janene Watts for all her administrative and court supervising efforts, all the very hard working committee members, and the representative members and coaches.
Without this wonderful team effort the association would not be able to operate as efficiently or effectively to run the various programs.
Due to the limitations of the current court space and an aging facility, the board is embarking on a campaign to upgrade the facility to benefit all the members and community.
This will include seeking government assistance and private sponsorship opportunities to upgrade the stadium and potentially increase court space.
