He was recently awarded Highland FM person who has done the most to advance the station during the year.
It was the first time Graham has won this award.
He is not a presenter but works hard behind the scenes to ensure everything runs smoothly.
“When things break down people ring me. I usually can’t fix them but I know who I can get to come and fix them,” he said.
“I’m not on air but I like doing the organisation and keeping the machine ticking along.
“Radio’s always been my hobby. I’m retired so it keeps me busy and keeps me out of mischief.”
Graham is treasurer and operations manager.
He has recently been hard at work preparing Highland FM’s new studio in Bowral.
“Hopefully with our new studio things won’t break down because we’ve got some technicians installing everything and it’s designed to run smoothly.”
When he first became involved with the radio station, Graham said things were very different.
“We didn’t have computers and what’s a tape recorder, what’s a cassette machine?”
Graham will celebrate 30 years working with Highland FM in April 2017.
Chairman of Media Co-operative Limited which is the operating company for the station, Peter Short said Graham was a thoroughly deserving recipient of the award.
“He’s always been involved even before we moved into the new premises here. He’s always on call, always available and always able to fix things,” he said.
“When we moved in here he’s been tireless with what he’s been doing, organising people, being here and moving furniture around.”
It was Graham who trained Peter as a presenter a few years ago.
Peter has been a presenter on Tuesday Drive since 2013.
“He’s certainly very deserving of the award this year,” he said.
Highland FM will soon broadcast from Bowral Mall on Station Street in Bowral.
Graham said it was an opportunity for the public to come and have a look at how the station worked.
“As a community radio station, this is owned by the community and the local community has the right to come in and [have their say].
“Here [in Bowral] we’re closer to the public and that’s the advantage of the new premises.
Mr Short said Highland FM could be heard in other regions outside the Wingecarribee Shire and could be streamed worldwide.
