But drivers won’t see any workers on the ground – that’s because all the work is being done in the air.
During the next two weeks, Endeavour Energy workers will be working on power lines crossing the M1 Princes Motorway between Bellambi and Helensburgh.
“These works are part of the refurbishment of the transmission line connecting our major substations at Bellambi and Helensburgh,” an Endeavour Energy spokeswoman said.
“The overhead earth wires need to be replaced due to their age and condition.
“The new earth wires will help maintain the reliability and safety of power supply to local homes and businesses and prevent unexpected power interruptions caused by lightning.”
The overhead lines cross the motorway at two locations – at Bulli Tops around three kilometres north of the Appin Road overpass and at Maddens Plains just north of the Princes Highway overpass.
Work at Bulli Tops takes place on December 7-8 while the Maddens Plain work will occur on December 13-14.
The Endeavour Enerrgy spokeswoman said the work on replacing the wires would be done between 10am and 2pm to reduce the disruption to traffic during peak periods.
“While all lanes of the M1 will remain open in both directions, the speed limit will be reduced to 40km/h per hour around our work sites,” the Endeavour Energy spokeswoman said.
“Signs will be posted to alert approaching motorists of the changed speed limit and traffic barriers and witches hats used to clearly identify the work area.
“Endeavour Energy appreciates motorists keeping our workers safe by abiding by the reduced speed limits at all times and proceeding carefully around the work sites.”
Endeavour Energy had consulted with the RMS and other stakeholders on keeping workers safe when working near the motorway.
