Koori Kids co-ordinated the event in partnership with the NSW State Government Departments of Education, Health, Education and Communities NSW, Aboriginal Affairs NSW and Transport for NSW.
“These activities aim to promote awareness, respect and harmony within school communities,” said council’s Aboriginal community development officer Melissa Wiya.
“Council has supported this initiative for the past ten years ensuring that schools within our shire have the opportunity to participate,” she said.
More than 210,000 entries were received across a range of categories including a short story, essay writing and colouring-in competition.
Bowral Public School student Trieste Cauchois was presented with a NAIDOC Medal of Excellence by Executive Director of NAIDOC Week 2016 School Initiatives Dylan Williams last month.
“During the assembly it was announced Bowral Public School was the only school within our Local Government Area to have received an award two years in a row,” said Ms Wiya. “This is a fantastic achievement for the school and our community.”
Bowral Public School student Lulu Sandilands received a NAIDOC Medal of Excellence in 2015.
