The men have been growing their hair and beards for the past year for a fundraising shaving event on December 10.
Michael Bromfield, who has dyed his hair and beard red, said the guys had the idea a few years ago to use their hair for a cause.
“We’ve got some hairy people about the place, so we thought we could do something with it,” he said.
“We saw it as a way to raise money – we did it for Westmead last year [and raised almost $3700] but wanted to help locally this time.”
The monies raised will be donated to the Children’s Ward at Bowral and District Hospital.
The men will be shaved at the Bundanoon Hotel, and decided to dye their hair and beards in the weeks leading up to draw attention to their cause.
And they have received some interesting reactions.
Warren Dudley, who is currently sporting a bright pink beard and blue hair, said he had received some extreme reactions from those who thought he was a bit colourful.
“My beard was peroxide blonde [before it was dyed pink], and one boy thought I was Santa, he was pulling my beard to see if it was real,” he said.
“Mind you, if I get the money, I’m happy to walk around like this for another year, I don’t mind looking silly for a cause.”
One man to keep an eye on is Paul Webber, who has had his beard for more than 20 years. He said he hoped to raise more than $1000 before giving his facial hair the chop.
Bundanoon Hotel employee Katrina Costello has been helping organise the day, and said local businesses had been generous with donating raffle prizes.
“There will be music, sausage sizzle, face painting, silent auction and a jumping castle to go along with the big shave,” she said.
“We want to do this to take something off the children’s ward’s wishlist.”
Everyone is invited to join the shaving event, which will take place from 3.00pm on December 10 at the Bundanoon Hotel, 6-18 Erith Street, Bundanoon.
