Highlander Phoebe Johnson's stature in basketball continues to grow after she was selected for the Under-17s Australian Development Squad.
The star is 16 years old and stands at six feet, four inches (193cm) tall.
Phoebe was one of 40 athletes offered invitations to the 2017 Australian Development Camp (ADC) at Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence.
The ADC will offer the Highlands star a mechanism to identify future Australian Boomers and Opals as well as assess potential scholarship holders for the Centre of Excellence.
Phoebe will also be given the development opportunity to learn under the top coaches in the country.
Centre of Excellence head coaches Adam Caporn and Kristen Veal as well as assistant coaches Matthew Paton and Michael Cassidy will help expose the athletes to the Boomers’ and Opals’ style of play.
Players will be selected from the development squad to represent Australia in the Word Titles.
Phoebe’s mum, Kate Johnson, said she was pleased for her daughter.
“We are really proud of her,” she said.
“We weren’t expecting her to be selected at all so it’s really fantastic for her.”
Phoebe will attend the camp from January 22-27.
