Megan has always known she would become a teacher, and initially completed a Bachelor of Arts in Communications through the University of Canberra. Next came raising a family, so a return to full-time study to gain her teaching qualification needed to wait under her children were older.
“I was previously accepted into the Diploma of Education at the UOW Shoalhaven campus in Nowra but knew trying to manage raising three kids and doing the commute would be too much on my family”.
Megan doesn’t regret waiting to return to study. “I have loved every minute of it at UOW Southern Highlands. You become so close knit as a group over the two years; the tutors and course coordinator are so supportive of everyone”.
Master of Teaching Coordinator Kim Clothier said that the Southern Highlands campus provides a very supportive and inclusive environment.
“Whether you are a recent graduate, or have been out of the education system for some time , the academic and personal support services at this campus will help you succeed. What matters is a passion for education and for inspiring children – we will develop your skills to become an effective teacher”.
The Master of Teaching is now the course students with a previous Bachelor degree need to complete in order to qualify to become a Primary or Secondary teacher – replacing the previous ‘Dip Ed’ nationally.
UOW Southern Highlands introduced the Master degree in 2015 - Megan will be in the first batch of students graduating locally with the degree at the graduation celebration in December.
