“Teaching is the career path I have wished to pursue for a long time. I chose the Southern Highlands campus because I had completed my undergraduate degree there and was extremely happy with the amount of resources available, and the care that went into my education. I thought I would have to travel to Wollongong to complete my Masters of Teaching but thankfully this course became available at the Southern Highlands campus just in time!”
Studying close to home enabled Phoebe to juggle full time study with family life as well as working as a piano tutor and part of the cleaning staff at Bowral House Nursing Home and Lloran Log Cabins in Robertson.
“I have been able to study full time as well as keep all my part time jobs and balance my time with home and social life. The travel time alone has saved me in petrol and, of course, time which is invaluable”.
As part of the Master of Teaching, students undertake professional experience (PEX) training within school around the Southern Highlands. Phoebe got to experience both government and independent schools.
“I completed my PEX training at Bowral Public, Tudor House and Southern Highlands Christian School. I have been able to build relationships with a few schools before even graduating which has led to offers of casual work and positive relationships within my local community”.
Phoebe is expected to graduate in December and says “it is all a bit unknown at the moment. I have had a plan for the past 5 years as all I have had to do is study, but now it is a completely different ball game. I am excited for the future but am unsure where I will end up or where my work will take me.”
