Adding teaching to her considerable talents was a logical progression. Cilla grew up in Goulburn and moved to Lismore to complete a degree in instrumental music at Southern Cross University. After moving to Melbourne, it was through teaching music to school children that Cilla discovered the connection between music and education.
“I wanted to study further to learn how to use music in a more influential way in the education of children”.
Cilla moved to the Southern Highlands and enrolled in the Master of Teaching at the local UOW campus.
“Studying locally allowed me to keep up my work in music industry, so I have been able to perform locally and release new material during this time.”
Her practical placements during the two years of study were at Bowral, Moss Vale, Exeter and Colo Vale Primary schools.
“The practical placement gave me a variety of experiences in teaching. I now feel equipped to use my music for educational purposes in the classroom, and I’m excited that I have already secured casual teaching work.”
Cilla says that she is looking forward to working casually as a teacher over the coming years so that she can keep working in the local music scene and maintain a healthy work-life balance.
