There are plenty of opportunities to get dressed up and have a good time with friends and family while watching the race on November 1 throughout the Highlands.
Call your local club to find out if they have anything special planned for the race that stops the nation.
Take part in the ‘Horse for a Cause’ fundraising event for a school in Kenya from 12.30pm. Gail Dolphin has organised the fundraising Melbourne Cup lunch with competitions for Best Hat and Best Out of Africa outfit. Booking can be made online at www.trybooking.com/220626 and the event will be held at the Burrawang School of Arts.
Another fundraising event is the Moss Vale-Berrima Red Cross luncheon fashion parade from 12.00pm. Held at Dormie House, Moss Vale, tickets are $35 each for a two-course meal. Contact tricia.okeeffe@hotmail.com for more information.
If you are ethically against horse racing and the Melbourne Cup, the community can gather at The Moose Hub for their ‘Horsing Around’ event from 1.30pm-3.00pm. The event will also serve as the book launch of author and lifestyle psychologist Christine Thompson-Wells’ mindfulness colouring books and spoken music/poem CDs. The Moss Vale Golf Club is offering a chicken and champagne buffet for $15 per person, with bookings recommended.
Briars Hotel have limited seating available for their luncheon, with includes a three-course lunch and beverages for $85 from 12.00pm. Prizes are available for best dressed lady and man, and Johnny Spitz will perform from 4.00pm. Call 4868 1470 to book.
