Public schools throughout the state will benefit from a share of $219 million in additional needs-based funding next year, made possible by NSW signing the Gonski agreement.
Goulburn MP Pru Goward said in 2017, Highlands schools would receive $521,712 of that share. She said this would allow principals to meet the needs of their students and the school community. “The NSW Government is delivering on its commitment to deliver additional school funding based on student need,” she said. Ms Goward said local schools had employed additional teachers with expertise to assist students who need extra support in key learning areas like literacy and numeracy.
In NSW public schools, needs-based funding is distributed under the Resource Allocation Model (RAM), which uses information about student need to deliver resources where they are needed most according to Gonski recommendations. Gonski funding is designed to ensure all children are educated in properly resourced schools.
Needs-based funding allocations in the Southern Highlands include:
- Avoca Public School: $42,367, an increase of $5,598
- Berrima Public School: $84,761, an increase of $28,321
- Bundanoon Public School: $144,383, an increase of $31,971
- Burrawang Public School: $28,900, an increase of $5,872
- Exeter Public School: $65,754, an increase of $17,289
- Kangaloon Public School: $28,095, an increase of $6,704
- Moss Vale High School: $579,318, an increase of $182,498
- Moss Vale Public School: $528,192, an increase of $199,351
- Penrose Public School: $23,325, an increase of $1,410
- Robertson Public School: $151,194, an increase of $20,836
- Wingello Public School: $45,066, an increase of $12,460
