Your Angel recently launched a program to help Highlanders learn more about how to prepare and cook delicious, healthy meals.
The six week course is presented by chef Lucinda Dazos, with support of the Mittagong RSL and Moss Vale Services Club, and started on October 12.
“The courses try to give them [participants] the basic skills to create healthy food for the family on a minimal budget,” Ms Dazos said.
The course focuses on working with seasonal produce so participants would learn how to shop and fill their pantries with plenty of food options for the week.
"We want to instill an interest and pride in their food to keep growing their skills,” she said.
At the latest class, participants made turkey sweet corn meatballs with a roast pepper sauce.
They also learnt how to make a wholemeal pastry which was then used to create an artichoke, feta and spinach tart.
To finish, they made a sugar free cocoa brownie.
Participants will also took home a whole hamper with ingredients they used so they could put their cooking skills to use at home.
Ms Dazos said they worked with the food pyramid, looking at gluten free options and how to create sugar free meals.
The next round of classes will be start on November 23.
