All are welcome to opening drinks with Raewyn & John Saturday 5 November at 3pm, with the lively music of “Janice’s Neighbours” - Julie Brooking, mandolin and Bill Herringe, guitar.
Raewyn Lawrence studied painting in the early eighties at what is now known as the National Art School, in the Old Darlinghurst Gaol in Sydney. Since then she has had four solo shows in Sydney and one in Moruya and Los Angeles, along with many group shows both local and further afield.
Raewyn was a finalist in the Basil Sellers Art Prize this year, 2014, 2010 and in 2008, when she won the People’s Choice Award.
“I am passionate about light and colour and our local folklore. There are glimpses of events in my life and the lives of others that I feel the need to record on canvas. I guess I see myself as a storyteller through the medium of paint,” Raewyn said.
John Rouch studied painting at the Victorian College of Fine Arts. He then worked in film and theatre from 1980 in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide.
“I worked in various roles, but mainly as a scenic artist. The work offered a rare opportunity to paint very large works and scenic backdrops for many different productions over a 20-year period, always in the context of storytelling. Moving to the South Coast has inspired a more personal reflection, and expression, and much smaller paintings.” John said.
John has exhibited over the years in Melbourne and locally. He has been a finalist in the Basil Sellers Art Prize and the Goulburn Regional Art Prize, where he received the People’s Choice Award.
Together Raewyn and John’s work makes a delightful show not to be missed.
