Wingecarribee Family Support Service is a non-government organisation that, on a small budget, supports about 100 local families each year.
Any family with children under 18 can self-refer (or be referred in) for free non-judgemental support around any issue, whether it be mental health struggles, relationship strains, children’s behaviour, debt or financial struggles, drug or alcohol issues and so on. Anyone who needs support will be offered a family support worker who will see them frequently in their own home, to help them set and achieve their goals.
The team helps families through domestic violence issues, parents with depression, children who may have anxiety, parents or children with serious health issues, teenage or young parents, recently separated parents arguing over access to the children, or parents or children who are suicidal.
Family Support runs weekly parenting classes, a men’s group and several playgroups - one specifically for young parents, one for Aboriginal families and a general supported playgroup.
To mark 30 years of service, a cake cutting will take place at the AGM on October 27 from 4pm to 5pm. All are welcome.
