The Highlands Theatre Group will present The Sneeze by Anton Chekhov, which comprises of eight Russian, satirical short plays.
Rehearsals have been taking place over the past few weeks, and director Peter Paige has ensured each character is portrayed in the true Chekhovian style.
Highlands Theatre Group publicity officer Sue McDonald said Chekhov’s style demanded a high level of flexibility and depth from the actors.
“The humour and absurdity of each situation is offset by a certain level of brevity, and while the irony won’t be lost on the audience, neither will the way in which the foibles of the characters are gently exposed,” she said.
“At a time when the work of most Russian writers was regarded as being notably dark and bleak in nature, Chekhov proved an exception.”
This is Peter’s first time working with The Highlands Theatre Group. He has previously worked with both professional and amateur actors.
The eight plays to be performed are Drama, The Alien Corn, The Sneeze, The Bear, The Evils of Tobacco, Swan Song, The Inspector General and The Proposal.
Performances will take place throughout November. To book, visit htg.org.au or call 4871 2888.
