The hair salon won the national Aveda Salon Competition and will now receive a re-vamp from industry stylists.
Salon owner Liz Stokes said the company surprised her with a flash mob to let her know the salon had won.
“I was at the desk talking when I looked up and saw a crew of people in black Aveda shirts coming in, it was very exciting,” she said.
“They brought in champagne, cupcakes and flowers to let us know we had won.”
Liz attended a two-day retreat in Sydney to look at different salons to decide what she wanted from the makeover.
The salon’s stylists also received training on Aveda products and services, such as relaxing rituals and massages to incorporate into their hairdressing.
“I’m all about supporting the community and the company’s sustainable mission is important to me, so the style will expand on that,” she said.
“I’m giving the style team free will, I’m happy for them to do whatever they think is right.”
As the building where the salon is situated is heritage listed, nothing will be structurally changed.
“Everything will be custom made and brought in,” Liz said.
“We will stay open while the changes take place, it should be done by January next year.”
Aveda salon development partner Courtnie Cohn said Gossip was chosen because they matched Aveda’s philosophy.
“We were looking for a salon that was environmentally conscious, does charity work, had a strong business and wanted to grow,” she said.
Gossip Hair and Beauty is located at 2 Alice Street, Mittagong.
Photos will be added to the gallery as changes are made to the salon.
