The NSWPSSA Athletics carnival is a selective competition that starts at the local level and progresses to state representation.
The 9 year old from Wollondilly Anglican College competed in the 100m sprint, and was first primary school student from the college to represent the school at state level.
Jacob ran the race, held at Sydney Olympic Park, in 14.96 seconds and placed 26th out of 40.
He ran just shy of his personal best of 14.48 seconds, which he ran at the NSW CIS competition.
In the week lead up to the race, Jacob trained at Beaton Park in Wollongong to fine tune his skills and prepare for the race.
Jacob’s mum Melissa Birta said she was proud of her son.
“Jacob ran an amazing race however the competion was fierce. We are so proud that he made it this far,” she said. “He has worked really hard, he’s just turned nine but he is so determined.”
