Malcolm Hughes, who has been a member of the group for 24 years, recently celebrated his 80th birthday with his bushwalking buddies.
He said he liked bushwalking because he could be outside.
“It helps keep me fit, at my age,” he said.
"Before bushwalking I was into orienteering from the 1970s. Orienteering is still a great activity which involves more detailed map reading and compass work."
Mr Hughes said he didn’t have favourite bush walk although locally he enjoyed Bonnum Pic.
He said he would encourage others to join the Southern Highlands Bushwalkers but stressed that a reasonable level of fitness was required.
