PEOPLE lined the roads, stood on the back of utes and leaned over their yard fences to witness the Trucks Across the Highlands convoy.
The convoy started in Mittagong, went through Bowral and finished at Moss Vale Showground, where a carnival was set up for families.
The horns from the trucks could be heard long before they reached their destination towns before they rumbled down the main streets.
The ‘boys in their machines’ navigated the streets while their children honked the horns.
Organiser Rodney South said truck drivers in the region organised the event to raise money for sick children.
“We just want to help out people who are needier than us,” he said.
A range of entertainment was available at the Moss Vale Showground, including a jumping castle, miniature railway rides, live country music, food stalls and old army tanks for children to take a photo.
Attendee Patrick Jones said he was having a great time at the event.
“We’re lucky the sun is out as well,” he said.
Children ran excitedly around the parked trucks from the convoy, which totalled about 70 vehicles.
More than $40,000 has been raised from the event over the past three years, which has all gone to the BDCU Children’s Foundation.
The BDCU Children’s Foundation has three main initiatives for health in the area: education for residents and healthcare professionals; helping the children’s ward at Bowral and District Hospital; and funding the Child and Adolescent Mental Health nurse.
