Representatives of each of the 14 branches within the Wollondilly area, which covers from Jamberoo and Kiama in the north to Milton to the south and over the mountains to the Southern Highlands, attended the day-long conference.
Guest speaker was Sharyn MacKenzie from SCARF (Strategic Community Assistance for Refugee Families), who spoke on the assimilation of displaced refugees into the Wollongong community.
Formed in October, 2005, the group has grown to 160 families settling in to the area.
After basically beginning with people from African heritage, it now encompasses people from Burma.
SCARF receives no government funding, relying on donations and the generosity of the community.
The new committee formed for the Wollondilly Group for 2012-13 is president Mary McDonald (Nowra), secretary Velma Walker (Jervis Bay), treasurer Yvonne MacNamara (Berry), vice-presidents Jacqualine Longhurst (Nowra), Denese Williams (Jamberoo), Sylvia Smith (Berry), Cheryl Pearce (Kiama), Sandra Fowlie (Jamberoo), and Marie de la Torre (Berry).
Other positions were group international Lorraine Van Der Lubbe (Berry), group ag/environment Robin Toohey AM (Mittagong), group handicraft Lynne Grady (Nowra), group land cookery Glenice Richardson (Jamberoo), group publicity Coast Marian Smith (Nowra) and Highlands Jennifer Bowe (Moss Vale).
