True to form, the Mary Poppins statue in Glebe Park recently turned around as it does each year at the equinox. 

The equinox happens twice a year in March and September and coincides with the change of seasons. 

It’s a phenomenon that Southern Highlands Youth Arts Council president Paul McShane said could only be described as magic.

“She has been turning mysteriously twice a year since she arrived in Glebe Park in 2013. We’ve done a lot of research on how she moves but I think it can only be one thing- magic,” he said. 

Conspiracies have always circulated about Mary’s mysterious rotation. Some locals have decided that Mary might just be a little bit forgetful. 

“Some children think that Mary comes to life around the equinox and has a little run through the park to stretch out her stiff limbs. But when she gets back on her stand, she forgets what way she was originally facing and muddles it up,” Mr McShane said.
