Daughter Nikii Smith said at least 80 people had already expressed an interest in joining the search, with the focus being the area west of the powerlines that run parallel to the Princes Highway.
“We are not going over the same area searched by the police and the volunteers before but we just think dad may have gone a little further west,” Ms Smith said. “I can’t just sit up here and do nothing, we have to keep looking.”
There have been no leads on Mr Speechley whereabouts since he went missing at 4pm on July 7 from an aged care facility at Dalmeny where he had been placed on respite. The 77 year old suffered from Alzheimer’s disease and apparently scaled a large fence to get out of the facility.
Ms Smith said nobody had come forward about the red-coloured, four-door sedan, similar to a Honda Accord, that was seen stopped on the highway where Mr Speechley was last seen.
She was keeping in touch with Narooma police on this new search and said the family was most grateful for the previous search efforts organised by police.
Tuesday, September 27 happened to be the 58 wedding anniversary of Ray and his wife Jan, who still lives at Dalmeny,
His daughter who lives at Muswellbrook said her Facebook was flooded with well wishes on the anniversary day and there had huge interest in people from as far as Wollongong and Canberra in joining the new search on October 15.
