Chevalier took victory over the Wollondilly Soldiers in the AAM youth grade grand final at David Wood Playing Fields.
In the first half of the match, Jordan Provino, Daniel Aebi and Morgan Horn scored for Chevalier which put the score at 3-0 at the break.
In the second half Wollondilly worked hard to contain Chev’s scoring opportunities and neither team were able to hit the back of the net.
Highlands Soccer Association director of competitions & systems Danny Josipovic said both teams played very passionate games.
“Both teams have been at the top of the table all season and Chev didn’t dropped a game. All the boys played like stars all season and these are the just rewards,” he said.
Wollondilly Soldiers coach Grant Moller said he was proud of the team’s efforts right through the season.
“I’ve coached this side for 10 years and this was another fantastic season,” he said.
“The boys played really good soccer in the second half and stopped Chev from scoring, it was awesome. They should all be really proud of themselves.”
Chevalier College coach Mark Fitzpatrick said Wollondilly put a lot of pressure on his team throughout the match.
“Wollondilly are a very well structured and skilled team and they gave us a great game today,” he said.
The grand final was the last junior match for many of Chevalier’s players.
“A lot of our young blokes are finishing year 12 so we will have a lot of new players next season. These boys have set a very high standard for everyone new,” Fitzpatrick said.
Fitzpatrick commended Chevalier and Wollondilly on the sportsmanship and teamwork displayed in the match. “Both teams worked really hard and helped each other out wherever they could. Sometimes coaching is the best job in the world and this year has been a joy,” he said.
