One such road is Oxley Drive, where ruts on the side of the road could cause a serious accident.
Southern Highlands Taxis driver Rod Minchin has called on council to fix this and many other roads in need of repair across the shire.
“It’s a safety issue, no question about that,” he said.
“There’s so many places now- Merrigang Street, Charlotte Street in Mittagong, Old South Road near the airport, Centennial Road and Ascot Road to name a few.”
A council spokesman said much of the damage to Highlands roads had occurred earlier in the year as a result of the storms in June.
“We’re waiting to get some state funding assistance but more than 170 local roads and bridges were damaged,” he said.
“The extent of council managed assets has been estimated at over $2.1 million. All repairs are being coordinated on a priority and risk assessment basis.”
The spokesman said due to the extent of the damage, it could take close to 12 months to finalise all repairs.
“We are endeavouring to fast track this wherever possible with the use of contractors.”
But Mr Minchin said more needed to be done to ensure the shire’s roads were in good condition at all times.
“I just don’t understand why these things can’t get attended too. The [taxi] company has told me we’ve got the highest cost for suspensions [than any other country operator] which is a terrible indictment on our roads.”
Some of the roads highlighted by Mr Minchin as being “rough and dangerous” have been allocated funding for repairs in the Strategic Asset Management Plan 2016-2026 which was adopted by council in February.
