The Lions finished the ordinary season at the top of the ladder and faced off against the Yerrinbool-Bargo Bushrangers Green in the grand final who finished the season in second place. The Lions claimed a 3-1 victory in hard-fought match.
Highlands Soccer Association director of competitions & systems Danny Josipovic said the match was one of the closest and most exciting of the day. “The score did not reflect how tight the game was. Yerrinbool is a fight-back team and they did a fantastic job,” he said.
Yerrinbool coach Ray Feitz said Yerrinbool showed great spirit despite the loss. “All I wanted for the boys was a tight game and we definitely got that, Yerrinbool continued to fight and stayed on Mittagong’s back foot all game,” he said.
Mittagong coach Tony Friedrich said it was the hardest game the team had played all season. “Every player had to work as hard as they could, which is a testament to Yerrinbool,” he said.
