The Yerrinbool-Bargo Bushrangers finished the ordinary season on the top of the ladder while Moss Vale finished in second position.
In the major semi-final Moss Vale took a 5-4 victory after the game went to penalty shootouts.
Moss Vale coach Bill Smilie said they hoped to beat Yerrinbool in the grand final.
“It’s always a titanic game against Yerrinbool but I think the girls have it in them to win,” he said.
But it wasn’t meant to be for Moss Vale, who were defeated 3-0.
Highlands Soccer Association director of competitions & systems Danny Josipovic said it was a very entertaining match.
“Both teams played very hard games and the score did not reflect the quality of the play,” he said.
Moss Vale had two losses throughout the ordinary season while Yerrinbool remained undefeated until the finals.
“To get to this level of the competition you need to work hard and both teams showed that they thoroughly deserved to be here based on their performance across the season,” Josipovic said.
Moss Vale coach Bill Smillie said his team had a god match despite the loss.
“It was hard fought and the girls put in a lot of effort out there. We just weren’t close enough this game,” he said.
Smillie thanked Yerrinbool for their performance in the match.
“Over the course of the season Yerrinbool scored a tonne of goals. We closed the gap between us and them but we still have a little bit further to go,” he said.
Yerrinbool coach Paul Otieno said his team was nervous about the match.
“The girls always get a little bit worried before we play Moss Vale because they know how tough the game is. But today we finished the season on top. It could have been anyone’s game but we did well and we got it,” he said.
Jade Mceachern, Sarah Rech, Juliana Pudney scored the goals for Yerrinbool and Otieno commended them on their efforts. “Our goal scorers did a great job, everyone played a great game,” he said.
